In his opening speech, Minister Ahmed emphasized the significance of World Environment Day, which is being marked today, June 5. He stressed that this year’s theme carries a powerful message about protecting the environment and developing sustainable solutions to address the impacts of climate change.
“Today is a memorable day—one that allows us to reflect on the role we each must play in protecting our environment, so we may leave behind a clean and livable future for generations to come,” said Minister Ahmed Omar Mohamed.
The Minister also highlighted the major climate-related challenges facing Somalia, including recurring droughts, floods, and land degradation, all of which have a direct impact on people’s lives and the country’s economic development.
