Mogadishu, Somalia – June 2025

Mohamed Khadar, one of the senior officials working on environmental and climate issues in Somalia, delivered an in-depth presentation on the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) during the 2025 National Conference on Environment and Climate Change.

In his speech, Khadar emphasized the importance of having a sustainable national plan to address the increasing impacts of climate change on Somali communities. He noted that the NAP is a critical pathway for the country to navigate climate challenges by strengthening the resilience of vulnerable populations, especially those dependent on natural resources, such as farmers and pastoralists.

“The NAP is a well-developed plan that responds to the needs of the Somali people, using evidence-based knowledge and an integrated national and international strategy,” said Mohamed Khadar.

He further stressed that this plan is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is being implemented through genuine collaboration among government institutions, civil society, private sector actors, and international partners.

The conference, which brought together national and international officials, experts, environmental organizations, and youth representatives, focused on how Somalia can establish a resilient system to address the impacts of climate change.

In conclusion, Mohamed Khadar called on all sectors of Somali society to actively participate in the implementation of the NAP in order to build a greener, more resilient future for the coming generations.
