Somalia Concludes Key Environmental Pillar Meeting for National Transformation Plan 2025–2029

State Minister of Environment Closes Climate and Environment Pillar Meeting for National Transformation Plan (NTP) 2025–2029

The State Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Ahmed Omar, officially closed the high-level meeting of the Environment and Climate Change Pillar within the framework of the National Transformation Plan (NTP) for the years 2025 to 2029. The event, held in Mogadishu, highlighted the country’s commitment to environmental reform and sustainable development.

In his closing speech, Minister Ahmed emphasized the DanQaran Government’s strong commitment to implementing the NTP, stating that the Environment and Climate Pillar is the backbone of Somalia’s national development efforts. He described the meeting as historic, laying the foundation for a system built on accountability, climate resilience, environmental protection, and stakeholder collaboration.

The Minister stressed that the NTP is vital for enhancing climate resilience, promoting environmental care, and strengthening partnerships between the government and stakeholders. He expressed confidence that the new plan would lead to meaningful and lasting changes in environmental protection and climate adaptation.

During the meeting, participants exchanged ideas and recommendations to improve environmental infrastructure, combat land degradation, and establish a unified national approach to addressing environmental and climate challenges.

Minister Ahmed expressed special gratitude to the international donors and partners who continue to support Somalia. He called on all institutions and collaborators to further strengthen cooperation to ensure sustainable development and long-term environmental protection.

At the conclusion of the meeting, strategic recommendations were issued to guide the implementation of the National Transformation Plan. The aim is for Somalia to adopt a sustainable, unified framework to tackle climate change and safeguard its environment for future generations.
