Somalia’s Minister of Environment Meets NDC Partnership Director General to Strengthen Climate Action Implementation

Mogadishu – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia, Major General Bashir Mohamed Jama, held a fruitful meeting with the Director General of the NDC Partnership, Pablo Vieira. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, focused on strengthening collaboration for the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

During the discussions, Minister Bashir highlighted the Federal Government of Somalia’s strong commitment to fulfilling its international climate pledges, particularly those aimed at countering the severe impacts of climate change affecting the country. The Minister emphasized the urgent need for sustained technical assistance and equitable financing to enhance adaptation efforts and mitigate climate impacts.

“We believe that strong partnerships and inclusive support are essential to protecting the environment, improving community livelihoods, and achieving sustainable development that benefits Somalia and the world,” the Minister said.

For his part, Pablo Vieira commended Somalia’s efforts and progress in advancing climate adaptation plans and pledged that the NDC Partnership would continue providing technical assistance and facilitating access to international climate finance to strengthen the implementation of the national plan.

This meeting is part of Somalia’s broader strategy for climate adaptation and mitigation, with a focus on close cooperation with international organizations and other environmental stakeholders.
