Minister Bashiir Mohamed Jama Delivers Keynote Speech at the National Conference on Environment and Climate Change

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia, Hon. Bashiir Mohamed Jama, delivered an important keynote speech during the opening of the National Conference on Environment and Climate Change, emphasizing the Ministry’s continuous efforts in organizing this critical event and the urgent need to align national and international efforts to effectively address the impacts of climate change.

Minister Bashiir stated that the conference is a historic milestone, aimed at becoming a platform that unites the vision and strategies of the Somali nation regarding environmental protection, reducing the impacts of climate change, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Today we stand united with a national vision to confront climate change, which must be made a pillar in our country’s development plans. The Ministry’s efforts alone are not enough  national unity and international cooperation are essential to achieve meaningful outcomes,” the Minister declared.

He also underlined that climate change poses a serious threat affecting every aspect of life, including food security, water access, public health, the economy, and national stability. Therefore, he urged all government institutions, civil society, the private sector, and international partners to play a significant role in developing and implementing effective environmental and climate policies and programs.

The multi-day conference is expected to yield significant resolutions and produce a comprehensive national strategy to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability, ensuring a better future for the people of Somalia.

The event brings together local and international experts, representatives from federal member states, civil society organizations, and humanitarian agencies — all of whom expressed their strong commitment to protecting Somalia’s environment and building a resilient future.
