Deputy Minister Dr. Saciid Mohamed Ali Engages with DT Global on Green Urban Growth Programme

The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hon. Dr. Saciid Mohamed Ali, held a consultative meeting with representatives from DT Global to discuss the implementation of the Green Urban Growth Programme.

This program, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), will run for six years and focuses on developing climate-resilient infrastructure that aligns with urban climate adaptation in Somali cities. It also aims to enhance regional trade corridors and cross-border connections to support economic and commercial growth.

Dr. Saciid emphasized the importance of aligning the project with national policies and frameworks, such as the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the National Transformation Plan (NTP), particularly in the Environment and Climate sector. He also highlighted the need to prioritize cities that are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, such as floods and droughts.

Currently in its planning phase, the program will contribute to Somalia’s efforts to develop cities that are more resilient to climate change.

The meeting was attended by key ministry officials, including the Directors of the Environment and Meteorology Departments, Ms. Layla Diriye and Mr. Abdirisak Abdullahi Mohamed, who actively participated in the discussions.
