Somalia Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Africa-CARICOM Partnership at Addis Ababa Summit

Addis Ababa, 7 September 2025 – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. General Bashir Mohamed Jama, delivered a speech at the 2nd Africa-CARICOM Summit taking place in Addis Ababa. The Minister spoke on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

This summit, which brought together leaders of African countries and CARICOM member states, focused on strengthening cooperation, promoting global justice, and advancing joint solutions to the common challenges facing both regions.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the host leaders and the participating heads of state for their efforts in ensuring that Africa and the Caribbean speak with a united voice on global matters. He underlined the historical, cultural, and social ties between the two regions, highlighting that the Caribbean is an integral part of the African family and has been recognized as the “Sixth Region of the African Union.”

In his remarks, the Minister emphasized Somalia’s strong commitment to actively contributing to the enhancement of Africa-CARICOM cooperation, particularly in the areas of security, climate justice, reform of international financial institutions, and the development of economic, cultural, and political relations between the two sides. He stressed the importance of both regions jointly advocating for equality and justice in the international system.

Finally, Minister Bashir, speaking on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, concluded his speech by reaffirming that Somalia is ready to play an active role in advancing African unity and deepening the ties with the peoples of CARICOM. He stated:
