The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia recently hosted a consultation workshop focused on the draft National Justice Transition Policy. This event brought together key stakeholders from both civil society organizations and government ministries to discuss and provide input on a policy framework aimed at ensuring a fair, environmentally sustainable transition in Somalia.

The workshop’s objectives included gathering insights on how justice and environmental concerns intersect, particularly as Somalia undergoes a period of significant climate and societal change. Participants engaged in discussions on how to develop a justice-based approach that takes into account the unique environmental challenges facing the country, such as droughts and ecosystem degradation, which disproportionately affect vulnerable communities.

Civil society representatives shared perspectives on community needs and environmental justice, while government officials discussed policy integration. The feedback from this workshop will play a crucial role in refining the policy to ensure it is inclusive, adaptable, and capable of addressing the complex needs of Somalia’s transitional period, strengthening both justice and environmental resilience in the nation.
