Somalia’s Minister of Environment Highlights Climate Action and Partnership at SINNAAN Project Launch

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Major General Hon. Bashir Mohamed Jama, participated in the official launch ceremony of the SINNAAN Project, a large-scale initiative focused on promoting equity, strengthening vulnerable communities, and enhancing climate change adaptation.
During the event, Minister Bashir expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia for their strong commitment and active role in the implementation of the SINNAAN Project. He emphasized that effective collaboration among government institutions is essential for the success of national development programs.
In his address, the Minister highlighted key environmental challenges facing Somalia, including the severe impacts of climate change, such as recurrent droughts, flooding, environmental degradation, and their negative effects on livelihoods and community resilience.
Minister Bashir noted that the SINNAAN Project plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges by supporting climate adaptation efforts, promoting social equity, and assisting communities most vulnerable to climate-related risks.
He also commended government institutions, international partners, and development organizations for their contributions to the successful implementation of the project, stressing the importance of coordinated partnerships in environmental protection and climate resilience.
Finally, the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to developing and implementing policies and programs that strengthen environmental protection, enhance climate resilience, and ensure a sustainable environmental future for present and future generations.
