The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hon. Bashir Mohamed Jama, officially handed over Somalia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Mr. Simon Stiell, during a ceremony held in the city of Belém, Brazil.

The event was attended by the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Abdirisaq Ahmed Ali, along with the Minister’s Special Advisor and the Director of the Climate Change Department.

The submission of the NAP marks a major milestone for Somalia as it strengthens its national efforts to cope with the increasing impacts of climate change. The plan outlines clear pathways to bolster the resilience of communities, the national economy, and key infrastructure across the country.

Somalia’s NAP highlights the government’s preparedness and commitment to climate adaptation, emphasizing long-term strategies to reduce vulnerability and safeguard the nation against climate-induced shocks such as droughts, floods, and environmental degradation.

With this formal submission, Somalia joins other nations in advancing global climate action and aligns its national adaptation priorities with international frameworks under the UNFCCC.
