Somalia Strengthens Its Leadership in Climate Finance at the 7th East Africa Climate Finance Conference

Climate Finance Coordinator Participates in the 7th East Africa Climate Finance Conference in Rwanda

Rwanda – The Climate Finance Coordinator, Ms. Ayan Harare, participated in the 7th East Africa Climate Finance Conference held in Rwanda at a critical time when the world is facing escalating climate challenges and an urgent need for effective and transparent climate financing.

The conference focused on strengthening country-led climate finance and aligning regional and global efforts to achieve the target of mobilizing at least USD 1.3 trillion annually to address climate change.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of leveraging outcomes from COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, to reinforce international cooperation and advance commitments related to climate finance.

Somalia Showcases Tangible Progress

During the conference, Ms. Ayan Harare presented Somalia’s progress in:

  • Establishing and strengthening climate finance systems
  • Enhancing transparency and accountability
  • Advancing the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which plays a key role in carbon market cooperation and emissions reduction mechanisms

She emphasized Somalia’s strong commitment to building a transparent financial framework aligned with international standards, enabling the country to effectively access and utilize climate finance opportunities.

Somalia’s participation in this regional conference reflects its growing leadership role in climate finance coordination and governance. The country continues to strengthen its legal, technical, and institutional foundations to secure sustainable climate funding that supports:
