Somalia Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development at UNEA-7

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, led by the Minister, H.E. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, today proudly participated in the High-Level Segment of the UNEA-7 meeting, where the Minister delivered Somalia’s National Statement.
In his address, the Minister emphasized a message of hope and resilience of the Somali people, noting that despite the severe environmental and climate change challenges facing the country, Somalia remains firmly committed to transforming these challenges into opportunities for sustainable development, environmental recovery, and improved community livelihoods.
The Minister highlighted key steps taken by Somalia, including the implementation of the National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029), which places the environment and climate resilience at the core of the country’s development agenda. He also noted the submission of NDC 3.0 and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP 2025), which guide Somalia’s journey toward a more climate-resilient, low-carbon, and environmentally sustainable future.
Furthermore, the Minister called for strengthened global cooperation, predictable financing, and technical support to enable vulnerable countries to implement the sustainable solutions they need. He stressed that a green economy and environmental solutions are the pathway to peace, prosperity, and long-term stability for Somalia’s future.
Finally, the Minister reaffirmed Somalia’s full support for the UNEA-7 resolutions and expressed the country’s readiness to cooperate, share experiences, and play a visible role in global efforts to protect the environment and build a world resilient to climate change.
