The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, led by the Honourable Minister Dr. Bashir Mohamed Jama, officially participated today in the Opening Plenary of the 7th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), currently taking place in Nairobi.
The Somali delegation also included the Ambassador of Somalia to Kenya, H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Abdirisaq Ahmed Ali, as well as senior advisers from the Ministry.
This high-level international conference, running from the 8th to the 12th, provides an important platform for all UNEP member states to discuss sustainable environmental solutions, combat climate change, and accelerate global environmental protection efforts. Somalia is demonstrating a strong commitment to actively contributing to discussions and decisions aimed at building a resilient and sustainable environmental future.
During the conference, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change delegation will take part in special meetings, high-level dialogues, and interactive platforms focusing on priority issues for Somalia, including climate adaptation, natural resource management, and strengthening international cooperation.
As one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, Somalia will use this forum to strengthen its global voice, raise awareness of existing challenges and opportunities, and build broad partnerships that support national environmental strategies and community resilience.
