Somalia has approved its first project specifically aimed at enhancing climate resilience. The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Khadija Mohamed Al-makhzoumi, and her delegation participated in the 40th meeting of the Green Climate Fund’s Board. This meeting, held in Seoul, South Korea, approved $100 million to implement a project that will boost climate resilience for Somali communities.

“Today marks a historic moment as this project becomes the first of its kind to be approved for Somalia, and it is also the fastest project ever approved at a GCF board meeting! This success is due to the efforts of the Federal Government in collaboration with international partners. Somalia is committed to addressing the challenges posed by climate change, and we are determined to strengthen both domestic and international partnerships to implement projects that benefit the Somali people and environment.”
