Somalia and CBIT-GSP Discuss Strengthening Climate Transparency and Reporting

Incheon, South Korea – September 2025

During the Global Transparency Forum 2025 held in Incheon, South Korea, the Director General of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali, held a fruitful meeting with senior officials from the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency – Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP).

The meeting focused on supporting Somalia in strengthening transparency systems and the preparation of the Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) in line with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) under the Paris Agreement.

Mr. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali reaffirmed the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to continuously improving transparency and accountability in climate action, stressing that enhanced transparency is vital for building international trust and unlocking climate finance opportunities to support the country’s adaptation and mitigation efforts.

The Director General was accompanied by the Climate Finance Unit Coordinator, who emphasized the importance of consistent technical and financial support to enable Somalia to fully benefit from global transparency frameworks.

These constructive discussions are expected to significantly contribute to building the capacity of Somali institutions in data collection, reporting, and the implementation of effective strategies to tackle the challenges of climate change.
