Somalia’s Minister of Environment Participates in Climate Mobility Champions High-Level Meeting at UNGA 2025
The Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, H.E. General Bashir Mohamed Jama, participated in the Climate Mobility Champions High-Level Meeting, held as part of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) sessions.
The event, organized by the Global Center for Climate Mobility (GCCM), brought together world leaders and partner organizations to discuss strategies for addressing climate-induced displacement, supporting the resilience of vulnerable communities, protecting livelihoods and cultural heritage, and promoting peace and social cohesion.
Somalia’s Climate Action
Minister Bashir highlighted that Somalia has undertaken significant steps, including:
Submission of NDC 3.0,
Development of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP),
Formulation of the National Climate Change Plan,
Strengthening institutions guiding climate impact management.
He also emphasized the important role of Somalia’s collaboration with GCCM, particularly in preparing the Somalia Climate Mobility Blueprint for Action, which identifies vulnerable areas and prioritizes resilience-building measures.

Somalia’s participation underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of Somali citizens affected by climate change are heard at international forums, while strengthening global cooperation on climate adaptation and resilience.
