Somalia Becomes the First Country in East Africa to Submit and Launch the NDC 3.0 Plan

As technical negotiations on climate change continue, Somalia has officially submitted and launched its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) plan to address climate change. This demonstrates the strong commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia to the global climate agreement, which requires countries to set policies and plans that contribute to emissions reduction, strengthen community resilience, and support the implementation of clean and sustainable development pathways.

At the launch event, which was attended by officials, international organizations, and various stakeholders, a detailed presentation was delivered by the National NDC Coordinator, Dr. Abdullahi Khalif. He explained the preparation process of this plan and highlighted the government’s firm commitment to implementing the action points outlined in the document to achieve long-term solutions for climate resilience.

Somalia has become the first country in East Africa to submit the Climate Plan under NDC 3.0. The @UNFCCC has widely commended Somalia’s leadership role, expressing belief that this new plan will enhance environmental resilience, attract climate financing, and reduce the impacts of climate-related disasters.

Finally, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change will make every effort to ensure these plans are translated into tangible actions with clear goals and measurable results from 2025 to 2035, to achieve adaptation, mitigation, and resilience to climate change.
