Somalia and Turkey Strengthen Cooperation on Environment and Climate Change

October 18, 2025 – Istanbul, Turkey: Somalia and Turkey are strengthening their cooperation in the areas of environment and climate change response. The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Major General Bashir Mohamud Jama, held a fruitful meeting with the Turkish Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Murat Kurum.

The meeting focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries in environmental protection, institutional capacity building, and the implementation of the “Green Somalia” initiative.

Minister Bashir expressed his gratitude to the Government of Turkey for its continued support and praised the Zero Waste program, describing it as a successful model that promotes waste management and environmental conservation.

For his part, Minister Murat Kurum commended Somalia’s ongoing environmental reform efforts and pledged to further strengthen the collaboration between the two nations.

The meeting was also attended by the Somali Ambassador to Turkey, Fathudin Ali Mohamed, along with a delegation led by Minister Bashir.
