Somalia and Djibouti Strengthen Cooperation on Environment and Climate Change

 The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia, Major General Bashir Mohamed Jama, held an important meeting with the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Republic of Djibouti, Mr. Mohamed Abdoulkader Moussa Helem, during the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (#INC5), taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.

The meeting focused on strengthening the historic ties between the two countries, with a special emphasis on enhancing cooperation in the areas of environment, climate change, and sustainable development. The two ministers discussed:

  • Exchange of environmental data and information

  • Sharing of knowledge and development experiences

  • Implementation of joint measures to address environmental challenges

  • Promotion of sustainable projects that benefit both countries

Somalia and Djibouti reaffirmed their commitment to closely working together to protect the environment and advance sustainable development for the benefit of both nations and the wider Horn of Africa region.

The meeting was part of the ongoing efforts to unify the regional voice and build strong, practical cooperation that will pave the way toward a sustainable future and a cleaner environment.
