Somalia and CMS Strengthen Partnership to Protect Migratory Wildlife and Combat Illegal Trafficking

The Director General of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali, today held a productive meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), Ms. Amy Fraenkel.
The meeting, which was attended by several department directors from the Ministry, focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and CMS in the area of environmental and wildlife conservation.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included enhancing bilateral collaboration between Somalia and CMS, protecting and conserving migratory wildlife species, combating illegal wildlife trafficking, and developing joint projects aimed at strengthening environmental protection and biodiversity conservation across the country.
Both sides underscored the importance of international partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and ensuring the sustainable management of migratory species that pass through or inhabit Somalia’s ecosystems.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change reaffirmed its strong commitment to advancing efforts to protect wildlife, preserve biodiversity, and safeguard the natural environment of Somalia for present and future generations.
This engagement reflects Somalia’s growing role in regional and global environmental conservation initiatives and its dedication to fulfilling international environmental agreements.
