Somalia Advocates for Global Cooperation on Climate Mobility at COP29

At COP29, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change for Somalia, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, participated in a high-level session focused on international and regional cooperation for Climate Mobility. The meeting underscored the need to bolster partnerships to address the severe impacts of climate change on vulnerable nations, with Somalia as a central advocate. Highlighting the critical need for a new framework to support communities affected by climate change, the Minister stressed the importance of enabling safe and structured mobility options for those displaced by environmental crises.
Somalia is actively pushing for a global agreement that will safeguard the rights and welfare of climate-impacted populations. Minister Al-Makhzoumi called on the international community to join forces to establish enduring solutions to tackle both immediate and long-term climate challenges. Through her appeal, Somalia aims to lead a global effort that prioritizes the protection and resilience of communities on the frontlines of climate change.
