Somali Parliament Holds First Reading of Two Key Environmental and Climate Draft Bills

The House of the People of the Federal Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia held its regular session at the House of the People headquarters. The session focused on the First Reading of two important Draft Bills submitted by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the National Government, which are vital to the establishment and strengthening of national institutions.
The session was chaired by the Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Hon. Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur, and was attended by the Second Deputy Speaker and the Chief Whip of the House of the People.
The agenda of the session was the First Reading of the following Draft Bills:
- The Draft Bill on the Establishment of the Somali Meteorological and Climate Services Authority, and
- The Draft Bill on the Establishment of the National Environmental Management Authority.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Major General Bashir Mohamed Jama, presented the First Reading of the two Draft Bills to the House of the People, providing a detailed explanation of their objectives, significance, and the role these laws play in environmental protection, meteorological and climate services, and the establishment of key institutions essential to state-building.
The session was also attended by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry, Hon. MP Hussein Haji Ali, the Director General, and senior officials and staff of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, who closely followed the First Reading process of the Draft Bills.
