National Environmental Law and Policy Dissemination Conference

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Federal Republic of Somalia, organized the first conference on environmental law and policy. The conference was attended by federal line ministries, members of parliament, the Office of the Attorney General, Office of the State of Attorney General, Somali Police Force, UN agencies and international partners, private sector and civil society organizations.

The conference focused on discussing the environmental and climate regulatory framework in Somalia. The aim of the conference was to present to the audience and disseminate the recently adopted national environmental legislations and policies:

  1. National Environmental Protection and Management Act
  2. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Regulation
  3. National Environmental Policy, and
  4. National Climate Change Policy.

The conference provided a platform to discuss environmental governance in Somalia and arrive at a common understanding between government ministries and international partners in implementing  the approved legislations and policies. It was agreed that all stakeholders will work together in ensuring compliance with the environmental laws of the country.
