Building Resilient Agri-Food Systems in Somalia: Addressing Climate Change at #COP16Riyadh

Agri-Food System Day | Session 2

The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Dr. Siciid Maxamed Cali, inaugurated the second session of the day at #COP16Riyadh, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. The session, held as an open panel discussion at the Somalia Pavilion, addressed the theme “The Impact of Climate Change on the Agri-Food System in Somalia.”

The event explored the challenges posed by climate change to Somalia’s agricultural and food systems, emphasizing adaptive solutions and strategies for building resilient systems capable of mitigating these impacts. Key discussions focused on fostering international collaboration, sharing expertise, and mobilizing resources to enhance food security and improve livelihoods for Somali communities.

Participants analyzed innovative approaches to strengthen agri-food systems, highlighting the importance of integrating climate adaptation into food production and resource management to ensure long-term sustainability. The session underscored Somalia’s commitment to addressing climate challenges through global partnerships and local initiatives.
