The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia organized a national workshop focused on the role of youth, women, and vulnerable groups in implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) for climate action and resilience.
The workshop, officially opened by the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali, is part of the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community participation in the implementation of national climate commitments.
Held in Mogadishu, the workshop brought together representatives from federal member states, civil society organizations, federal government institutions, women’s organizations, and persons with disabilities. The discussions centered on ensuring that youth, women, and vulnerable groups are included in decision-making and climate-related actions, so that Somali communities play an active role in shaping the country’s environmental agenda.
During the workshop, the Director General emphasized the importance of inclusive participation in the nation’s climate plans. He noted that community engagement and continuous consultation are essential for the successful implementation of the NDC 3.0, which serves as a key pillar of Somalia’s national climate response strategy.
In conclusion, the workshop ended with an agreement to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry, government agencies, civil society organizations, and all segments of society to ensure that every group within the Somali community contributes to environmental protection and climate adaptation efforts.
