State Minister of Environment Meets CARE International to Strengthen Climate Resilience and Environmental Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia — The State Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Ahmed Omar Mahamed, today held an important meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters with representatives from CARE International, led by Mr. Apollo Gabazira, Regional Director for East and Central Africa.

Also present at the meeting were the Ministry’s Director General, Mr. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali, along with senior advisors, where discussions focused on the current level of cooperation and opportunities to further expand the partnership between the two sides.

During the talks, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on new opportunities to strengthen environmental protection efforts, enhance the resilience of Somali communities facing climate change, and to advance practical and sustainable solutions.

Mr. Ahmed Omar Mahamed emphasized the Somali government’s strong commitment to strengthening international environmental cooperation, describing CARE International as an important partner that plays a vital role in climate and environmental programs.

For his part, Mr. Apollo Gabazira reaffirmed CARE’s commitment to continue supporting Somalia, particularly in empowering vulnerable communities and enhancing their ability to withstand the impacts of climate change.

Both sides agreed to pursue ongoing cooperation and concrete action plans to advance sustainable environmental and climate solutions that benefit Somali communities across the country.
