Somalia Advances NDC 3.0 Financing Plans at FAO Investment Centre in Rome

Rome, Italy – A high-level meeting took place today at the FAO Investment Centre in Rome, attended by Dr. Abdullahi Khalif, Somalia’s National Focal Point for the NDC Partnership, representing the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, General Bashir Mohamed Jama. The meeting was held with Mr. Giovanni Munoz, Head of Eastern and Southern Africa at FAO Investment Centre, and his technical team.

Focus on NDC 3.0 Financing

The discussions centered on preparing the financial plan for Somalia’s NDC 3.0, supported by the NDC Partnership and technically led by FAO, with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change holding overall responsibility. The meeting emphasized the development of strategic and fundable projects tailored to Somalia’s specific context and conditions.

Strategic Project Preparation Ahead of COP30

Participants agreed on the importance of preparing at least three to four impactful projects to be submitted to the Federal Government of Somalia ahead of COP30. These projects will serve as clear examples of Somalia’s commitment to implementing NDC 3.0 while ensuring alignment with donor priorities.

Strengthening Collaboration

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Federal Government of Somalia, and FAO to ensure the successful implementation of the country’s climate goals and ambitions.
