Somalia Holds Consultative Meeting on the Implementation of NDC 3.0

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia organized an important consultative meeting focused on the implementation of the new Climate Action Plan (NDC 3.0). The meeting, hosted by UNOPS at its Mogadishu office, brought together government officials, United Nations agencies, and other climate and environmental stakeholders.

At the meeting, Dr. Abdullahi Khalif, Somalia’s representative at the NDC Partnership, delivered a technical presentation highlighting key insights and guidance on implementation pathways and financing mechanisms for NDC 3.0. Hamdi Esse, the Chief of Staff to the Minister, also participated, representing the continuous collaboration with the NDC Partnership.

During the discussions, Somalia’s climate priorities and strategies for mobilizing sustainable financing and fostering international cooperation were presented. An open dialogue involving experts and UN agency representatives examined how UN support could be aligned with Somalia’s NDC 3.0 priorities and how the plan could be integrated at the federal member state level.

Participants agreed on the need for unified collaboration, consistent coordination, and a clear joint roadmap to ensure Somalia delivers on its global climate commitments, particularly in reducing climate impacts and enhancing adaptation efforts.

The meeting was regarded as a crucial foundation for establishing a shared framework that will support Somalia in achieving the ambitions of NDC 3.0, while also strengthening its partnership with the international community and UN agencies.
