Somalia and Germany Discuss Strengthening Climate Cooperation Ahead of COP30 Summit

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Major General Hon. Bashir Mohamed Jama, along with a delegation he led, held a fruitful meeting with the German Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Sebastian Groth. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation on climate issues, particularly in preparation for the upcoming global climate conference, COP30.

During the meeting, both parties agreed on the importance of deepened collaboration between Somalia and Germany to support Somalia’s efforts in addressing climate change, promoting environmental sustainability, and building national resilience.

Minister Bashir Mohamed Jama commended the active role that the German government continues to play in advancing Somalia’s environmental agenda. He stated:
“The Ministry greatly appreciates the significant role Germany is playing in supporting the advancement of Somalia’s environmental agenda.”

This renewed partnership paves the way for Somalia’s active and impactful participation in COP30, supported by technical, financial, and strategic assistance from international partners like Germany.

This step highlights Somalia’s strong commitment to taking a leadership role in addressing the consequences of climate change, in close collaboration with the international community, to find lasting solutions that serve both the environment and future generations
