Somalia’s Environment Ministry Strengthens Cooperation with IFAD at Biodiversity Conference

Senior officials from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia took part in the second phase of the 16th Conference on Biodiversity Conservation. During the event, they held a side meeting with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) at its headquarters in Rome, Italy.
The meeting was led by the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Yusuf Samatar, accompanied by the Ministry’s Advisor on Biodiversity and Forestry, Dr. Beddel Ahmed Hassan. The discussions centered on strengthening collaboration, advancing joint projects, and accelerating the implementation of key initiatives between the Ministry and IFAD.
Both parties emphasized the importance of reinforcing implementation standards and fostering mutual trust through transparency. They also agreed on the need to align projects with Somalia’s national priorities and ensure their execution in accordance with the Environmental and Climate Change Pillar of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
This collaboration aims to support sustainable environmental practices and resilience-building efforts in Somalia.
