Showcasing Climate Resilience: Stories from Somali Communities at COP16Riyadh

Agri-Food System Day | Session 3

The third session of the day, hosted by Astaan TV, took place at the Somalia Pavilion during #COP16Riyadh in a presentation format. Titled “Showcasing Stories of Climate Resilience,” the session focused on Astaan Media’s efforts to amplify the voices and experiences of Somali communities grappling with the impacts of climate change.

Key discussions included detailed reports on the devastating effects of floods on urban areas and how rural villages, with access to clean water, have adapted to shifting environmental conditions. Community-driven efforts, such as the cleanup of Liido Beach, were also spotlighted as examples of proactive environmental stewardship.

The session emphasized the pivotal role of media in documenting and sharing resilience stories to inspire action. By raising awareness, influencing policy, and strengthening community resilience, these narratives aim to drive sustainable solutions and foster collective action against climate challenges. Astaan Media’s work exemplifies the power of storytelling in addressing pressing environmental issues.
