The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-makhzoumi, attended the official opening of the 16th International Conference on Desertification and Drought (#COP16), held this year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Somalia is actively participating in global efforts to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change. The country is focusing on enhancing environmental resilience, particularly in addressing desertification, drought, and the broader impacts of climate change, to secure a sustainable future for all.

The COP16 conference serves as an important platform for Somalia to showcase its national environmental initiatives and to engage in vital discussions on combating the escalating climate crisis. This year, Somalia marks a significant milestone by participating with its own pavilion, an opportunity to highlight the country’s ongoing efforts to promote climate action and build international partnerships. Somalia’s involvement underscores its commitment to addressing environmental challenges and strengthening global cooperation in climate solutions.
