Minister Khadija Al-Makhzoumi Calls for Collaborative Action on Climate Resilience, Peace, and Youth Empowerment

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, spoke today at the NDC Partnership forum. This forum focused on strengthening climate resilience, peace, and security. The Minister highlighted the severe impact of climate change on many countries, particularly vulnerable ones like Somalia. Droughts, displacement, and conflicts arising from resource disputes are clear examples of the effects of climate change.

The Minister emphasized that strengthening climate resilience and building peace are interconnected. As climate change increases the risk of conflicts, it is essential to enhance the resilience of communities to mitigate its impacts.

Additionally, the Minister specifically pointed out that women and youth play a crucial role in addressing climate change and building peace. Empowering women and youth increases their ability to lead change and participate in decisions that affect their lives.

To achieve this goal, Minister Khadija called for increased climate-related funding, strengthening local institutions, and encouraging private sector participation in efforts to address climate change. By fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, we can create a green and peaceful future for everyone to live in harmony.
