Bangkok, Thailand – Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Saciid Mohamed Ali, led a delegation representing Somalia at the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (COP16) and the 36th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP36).

During this high-level international conference, the Deputy Minister delivered Somalia’s National Statement, highlighting Somalia’s commitment to implementing the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol, both of which Somalia is a party to. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with partner ministries and both public and private sector institutions, is working jointly to implement the Montreal Protocol’s measures to protect the environment. This includes managing and controlling trade and reducing the use of ozone-depleting substances (ODS).

The delegation led by the Deputy Minister also included Somalia’s Ozone Affairs Representative, Eng. Abdirahim Barre Mohamed. During the conference, Eng. Abdirahim held joint and bilateral meetings where he discussed Somalia’s progress in implementing the Montreal Protocol and outlined Somalia’s plan to phase out ozone-depleting substances (ODS) by 2030.
