The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, recently signed an important agreement aimed at enhancing climate resilience in the country, particularly in the agricultural sector. This project, known as Climate Resilient Agriculture in Somalia, is a program approved by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to support Somalia in addressing the severe impacts of climate change, especially regarding food security and poverty reduction.
Ambassador Khadija expressed her gratitude to all organizations and individuals involved in implementing this project, noting that this is the beginning of the Federal Government’s efforts to establish sustainable solutions to the challenges posed by climate change. She also emphasized that this project would play a significant role in reducing food shortages and poverty, as it relies on modern, climate-resilient practices that will enhance agricultural production and strengthen Somalia’s capacity to tackle the adverse effects of climate change.
It is expected that this project will positively impact the lives of the Somali people by creating job opportunities and improving natural resource management. This serves as a strong example of Somalia’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the welfare of both current and future generations.
