UNDP and the Federal Republic of Somalia Convene to Advance Climate Change Adaptation Efforts

Mogadishu, March 4, 2024 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, successfully held a pivotal meeting today to reinforce climate adaptation strategies under the National Adaptation Plan Support Project (NAPSP).
The event, hosted at the UNDP Country office Hall was co-chaired by H.E. Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Mr. Lionel Laurens, UNDP Resident Representative in Somalia. The co-chairs opened the meeting with a firm commitment to collaborative action and an emphasis on the urgency of addressing climate impacts in Somalia.
The meeting’s agenda centered around the presentation and discussion of the Project’s progress and the annual work plan. The Project Manager detailed the achievements of the past year and set forth an ambitious plan for the coming months, focusing on enhancing resilience and adaptive capacity across vulnerable regions in Somalia.
A session for questions and clarifications provided stakeholders with the opportunity to delve into specifics, ensuring transparency and collective understanding of the project’s direction and impact.
