Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Hosts Consultative Workshop on NDC Implementation Plan
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) today conducted a consultative workshop aimed at discussing the implementation plan for Somalia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) towards climate action. The event, held on February 3, 2024, saw the participation of Director Generals, esteemed experts, and stakeholders across various ministries in the Somali Government.
The workshop commenced with a session on the objectives by Director General Mr. Ahmed Yusuf, emphasizing the critical role of collaborative efforts in addressing climate change.
This was succeeded by a comprehensive presentation by Dr. Abdullahi Khalif, the NDC Country Facilitator, who outlined the revised Somalia NDC and introduced the new NDC Implementation Plan, setting the stage for a national roadmap towards substantial climate action.
A highlight of the workshop was the presentation of five bankable project ideas, conceptualized to support Somalia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing climate resilience. These projects, spanning various sectors, are designed to attract significant investment and create sustainable development within the country.
An open plenary discussion facilitated an exchange of ideas and insights, underscoring the urgency of integrated actions and the importance of aligning national development plans with climate objectives. The session on ‘way forward’ led by all Director Generals, delineated the strategic steps necessary for the successful execution of the NDC Implementation Plan.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change extends its gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions and looks forward to continued collaboration in the journey towards a sustainable and climate-resilient Somalia.
