Somalia Gears Up for COP28: Successful Conclusion of National Consultation Meeting.
Mogadishu, 12th November 2023 – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change marked a significant milestone today with the conclusion of the second phase of the national consultation meeting, setting the stage for Somalia’s participation in the upcoming COP28 Climate Change Conference scheduled to open in Dubai later this month.
Bringing together key stakeholders, including representatives from various federal government ministries, local organizations, and stakeholders, the meeting aimed to address crucial climate change issues and formulate a comprehensive policy framework for Somalia’s active participation in COP28.
Civil society organizations played a pivotal role in presenting their proposed contributions to the COP28 conference, outlining strategies to tackle the pressing climate change challenges faced by the nation. The exchange of experiences and discussions on priority issues concluded seamlessly, paving the way for a unified approach in representing Somalia at the international platform of COP28.
Honoring the closing ceremony, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mrs. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, commended the collaborative efforts of the ministries and civil society in ensuring the success of the meeting. Stressing the importance of transparent representation on the global stage, Minister Al-Makhzoumi emphasized the need for full cooperation to effectively convey Somalia’s stance at the congress.
In her address, the Minister underscored the primary agenda of the Somali government at COP28, highlighting the overdue requirement for humanitarian aid and articulating the country’s urgent need for development support.
